Mauchline Community Association SCIO was created in 2017 following the decision of East Ayrshire Council to agree to the Community Asset Transfer of the former Mauchline Library to Mauchline Community Association, who had previously organised lets of the Community Centre on Kilmarnock Road and East Ayrshire Council paid for the staffing, energy and repairs.

Prior to Mauchline Community Association taking the bold decision to assume all responsibility for the former Mauchline Library a consultation took place with the regular users to determine their requirements and to ensure these were then built into the refurbishment of the former Library. It was a central aim to ensure Burns Bairns had the opportunity to continue to provide Early Learning in Mauchline in the new facility.

Committee members, users and Burns Bairns spent many hours discussing what was required to meet their needs in the Community Facility. They engaged with architects, Care Inspectorate and Legal staff of East Ayrshire Council and submitted costed proposals of over £300,000 to refurbish the former Library which was approved by East Ayrshire Council.

Mauchline Community Association SCIO signed the lease on the 7th October 2017. A competition had taken place to name the Community Facility and the three rooms and was judged by a group made up of Mauchline Community Groups. Centre Stane and the rooms were named Bonnie Room, Exciting Room and Rising Stars.

The huge task of running the Centre Stane, being responsible for all heating, lighting, repairs and maintenance was and continues to be a huge task for the Trustees.
