Centre Stane - Burns Bairns

Welcome to Burns Bairns, a warm, nurturing and welcoming Early Education establishment situated within the Centre Stane building in the heart of Mauchline.

We provide high-quality early learning and childcare for children aged 3–5 years, working in partnership with East Ayrshire Council to provide funded Early Learning and Childcare. We are a term-time setting, open Monday to Friday, 9am–3pm.

At Burns Bairns, our aim is simple — to create a nurturing, inclusive and stimulating environment where every child feels safe, valued, loved and supported to grow in confidence.

Small setting, big hearts

We are a small and dedicated staff team, and we believe this is one of the things that makes Burns Bairns so special.

Being a small setting allows us to really get to know each child as an individual — their personality, interests, strengths, needs and what makes them unique. We value the strong relationships we build with our children and families, knowing that these secure, trusting relationships are at the heart of successful early learning.

Our children are not simply a number. We know them, we listen to them, we celebrate them and we believe in them.

One of the things we are most proud of is seeing our children leave Burns Bairns as happy, confident and capable individuals, ready to take their next steps in their learning journey.

Learning through play

We believe children learn best when they are happy, interested, engaged and having fun. Our approach is centred around learning through play, giving children opportunities to explore, investigate, create, problem-solve, make choices and develop at their own pace.

We follow The Curriculum for Excellence, carefully planning experiences around the individual needs, interests and developmental stages of our children. Most importantly, we listen to our children. Their voices, ideas and interests help shape our learning experiences and support us in providing the right opportunities for each individual child to thrive.

We are incredibly proud of the progress and development we see in our children during their time at Burns Bairns. From those first days of settling in to watching them become increasingly independent, capable and confident, it is a privilege to be part of their early years journey.

Growing together

Every child deserves the very best start in life, and we are passionate about creating an environment where children can be themselves, build friendships, develop independence, discover their interests and grow in confidence.

We work closely with our families to create positive home-to-nursery links and believe that when nursery, children and families work together, children truly flourish.

We would love for you to find out more about Burns Bairns and the experiences we offer.
